***UPDATE*** JAYSON SMILEY IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING FILM AND TV AS A SCREENWRITER AND IS NOT COMPOSING MUSIC FOR THE TIME BEING. REP: CAA

Film composer Jayson Smiley, born in Hollywood, California, began his musical journey while in Jr. high school as a vocalist.

In high school Jayson decided to become more serious about pursuing a career in music and began to formally train studying vocal technique with a coach. He went on to get his professional start performing in various rock bands around LA. Subsequently, he also discovered a deep interest in instrumentation and orchestration and began to study those aspects privately.

At the age of 20 Jayson decided to take a hiatus from music when presented with the opportunity to work as a professional model overseas and in LA (for Ford [modeling agency], G3, and others.) His goal was to accrue enough money to build a high-end composing studio capable of complex film work - which he has since realized. At the age of 24 (and back from modeling overseas) he was able to gain hands on experience in a professional recording studio setting working as an engineering intern for Silent Sound Studios, learning the tricks of the trade and the not so glamorous side of music production. This led to an assistant engineering position at Blue Drum, a Santa Monica based project studio. While at Blue Drum he proved himself an asset to the team and was quickly given the keys to the studio where he was then able to work on his own projects on off hours. At this time he was also enrolled at UCLA studying music and audio engineering. He eventually impressed his teacher enough so, that he was offered a job composing 13 episodes of the experimental show "Hollywood Radio Theater" (a 5.1 surround sound project.)

Jayson made the move to full-time composer in 2003 after his final band had broken up due to members taking touring jobs with more established acts. It was at this time he decided he would fully focus his love for music toward the film world --- as we know, many of this industry's top composers have also followed this path to much success.

At the present time Jayson continues to work as a professional film composer. He is looking for interesting and rewarding film projects for which he can lend his unique sound to. His mission is to line-up conceptually with those he works for to insure a work of the 'same' mind --- while coming to the project with a 'point of view'.

Away from music his sanctuary has always been surfing --- if he's not in the studio he can most certainly be found in the waves at Malibu. Jayson lives in Los Angeles.
